Well, let's just flip all of that around for this round. Soon after last year's feature, I flew out to New York, met with the director of the NYU Masters in Publishing director, and ... sort of begged to be let into the program. I guess she took a chance with me, because I was accepted (one of the last people accepted into the program). That was a big deal for me. New York is the #1 place in the world for book publishing, and NYU is, well, NYU. This is a great program, and I love it here.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. After I was accepted, I had about two weeks to cancel the lease and move out to New York, which was a bit rough. I had to leave my wonderful boyfriend behind (he would come to New York about 6 months later, though). I landed internships at W.W. Norton & Company, one of the most prestigious houses around (Fight Club, A Clockwork Orange, anyone?), a literary agency, and a academic press. I've met countless authors, hung out with the REAL author of the Jen Jameson biography, and I've had the pleasure of seeing aspects of my work at every major bookstore.
I'm still an intern... with this economy, I plan on being the perpetual intern... maybe one day I'll still be an intern but with interns of my own. I'm currently doing a copyediting internship at powerHouse books, a really super cool art book publisher based in DUMBO, Brooklyn (which is probably the prettiest place in all the boroughs.
